Firing the Harrington and Richardson Model 088

I've neglected my blog for some time now. However I am back and picking up where I left off. For those of you read the first two posts, you know I started this blog about doing a cheap diy project on my shotgun.(You can read the first two posts by using the link at bottom). To catch everyone up I was gifted a Harrington and Richardson  Model 088 12 gauge. It comes with a fixed full choke and 3 inch chamber.

Today I headed to my local indoor range to fire this shotgun for the first time. I had been itching to do this for months. I was nowhere near done with anything I said I wanted to do and was a tad nervous. What had been done was finally clearing the barrel of the rust deposits. With a barrel brush and half a can of WD-40 I was able to completely clean the barrel. Amazingly the barrel looked brand new.

First two rounds of 3" 00 buck fired from a Harrington and Richardson Model 088 with a fixed full choke.

I went to the range bought my targets and shells and got on the firing line. After a brief prayer the first round went down range. I was firing Remington Express 3" 00 Buck at a 10 yard target. The round kicked like a mule but the shotgun handled it beautifully. I was more impressed with the spread of the buck shot. I reloaded a fired another round. The spread was the same. I proceeded to fire the last three shells at a separate target at 15 yards with similar results.

All in all I was ecstatic at how well the shotgun handled and how accurate it was with a fixed full choke. After a good cleaning their are no signs of damage to the barrel or breach. I plan on honing the barrel and re bluing the entire shotgun as well as refurbishing the stocks. I will re post the results when it is completed so please bookmark this page and check back. I post at least once a week. Shoot safe.
